The best hangers ever and lots of other goodies…
There are some things I’ve stumbled upon for my home that I now won’t do without. You know, those little things that make you happy just knowing they’re there. Most of these items aren’t for show, they are behind-the-scenes workhorses. Basic items, (no batteries or plugs) that simplify my life. And whether for organizing or cleaning, they each solve a problem, they do their job and are made to last.
I don’t know about you, but my laundry drying rack gets a lot of use. And especially in the winter with merino wool layers and wool socks. I’ve had several “cheap” racks in the past and they broke and weren’t particularly attractive. Finally, I saw this one on Amazon and ordered it. This was years ago and it’s still in perfect condition. If anything ever happened to it, I’d buy it again. But I don’t think I have to worry about that.
Non-Flocked Hangers (Black with Swivel Hook)
These are without a doubt the best hangers I’ve ever seen or used. I love them. Maybe I’m in the minority but I don’t like the velvet hangers much. They always end up looking “dusty” and it is difficult to get a shirt off of them. These hangers are smooth, but the design and shape makes it so that clothes don’t slide off. My clothes never have that hanger dimple in them. They are sleek and thin so they don’t take up much space and look very streamlined. I ordered two sets originally and later ordered another set, and then another because everyone in the house wanted some. Highly recommend, especially if you’re getting ready to re-organize your closet.
Closet Shelf Liner (For Wire Shelving in Pantry or Closet)
I have a lot of that wire shelving in my closet. It’s very practical and I’m happy with the basic layout of my closet. However, I wasn’t happy with the way my folded clothes, like sweaters, would always end up with creases in them from the shelving. I tried using pretty paper shelf liners, but they didn’t work after a while and it didn’t look that great. Thankfully, I found these liners. It is so simple to cut them to the length you need and you just place them on the wire shelving and that’s it. It creates a firm, smooth surface with a clean, minimal look. Love them. I’m sorry for all the years I did without them.
Garment Rolling Rack with Shelves
For years I had a problem with where to store my tablecloths and other hanging items. One Christmas I received an Amazon Gift certificate and ordered this. I’m so glad I did. This lives in the laundry area of my basement near the washer and dryer (and my bamboo drying rack). I use it to hang my tablecloths that are only used for special occasions. You can also use it to hang items for drying out of the washer. Use it to hang heavy coats out of the way during the warmer months. And the top and bottom shelves are handy for storing other things. It’s like adding a closet for much less.
Multipurpose Rectangular Table, Height Adjustable
I have an amazing table like this in my basement. It may be utilitarian in looks but it makes up for it in usefulness and practicality. I have it set to counter-height, around 36″ high, which is key for me. I don’t sit there very often but I do have a couple of stools handy in case I want to. This is where I fold laundry, wrap presents, do craft or home projects. You can prepare packages for shipping and a myriad other tasks. It’s my workhorse table and I’m so glad I have this.
Sometimes it’s the little things. And this is a great shipping tape dispenser. I hate struggling with those handheld shipping tape dispensers. I can’t ever get them to work right. This one is nice and heavy for one-handed operation. So, whenever I need to send something to one of my older kids, or return an item I bought online or ship anything, I have everything organized in one place (my handy basement table) and it’s good to go.
Forged Nickel Plated 8″ Straight Scissors, by Westcott
These scissors are of the quality you didn’t think they made anymore. Hands down best scissors I’ve ever owned or used. They are heavy, sharp and made to last. Made in Italy. I’d rather have one pair of scissors like this for $15 than a bunch of cheap scissors that don’t make me smile. You’ll adore them.
Galvanized Steel Locking Lid Can
These look like a smaller version of an old fashioned metal trash can. And they are so handy outside. I keep our birdseed in one and no squirrels or bears or raccoons have gotten in one yet. Critters can’t chew through the metal. I have two at my potting bench with potting soil in one and Nature’s Helper in another. They would work great for pet food. It has a simple locking lid and they are watertight. Great storage problem solvers and they come in various sizes. I use the 4-gallon size.
Stainless Steel Round Step Trashcan, by simplehuman
Just an all-round great trash can. If you have to keep a trash can out on display you want one that looks nice. With it’s retro look and stainless steel body, this one won’t disappoint. I’ve had mine over 7 years and I still love it.
Microfiber Glass Cleaning Cloth, by E-Cloth
This is the best glass cleaning cloth ever. I misplaced mine one day (or someone borrowed it) and I replaced it with a different brand from the grocery store which was a mistake. You really don’t need to use a cleaner at all with these cloths but I do like to use the Method Glass Cleaner with it sometimes. Cleans mirrors and glass to a streak free shine in seconds and no lint! I use them on stainless appliances sometimes, too and they make sink faucets and other fixtures so shiny. They wash well and they just go on and on. You’ll love them.

That is kind of crazy! Glad someone enjoys them like I do.
