Simple Christmas Decor:
The older I’ve gotten, the less of our Christmas decorations seem to make it out of the giant tubs they’re stored in. When the kids were little I went all out and there were decorations everywhere. Now that our kids have grown, I put less out and keep it simpler. That doesn’t mean it is any less festive or warm, simple Christmas decor can be very cozy. At this point in our lives (no grandchildren, yet) I find it refreshing to do less and keep it simpler but still cozy and inviting. Our tastes change as well and I find myself liking the simpler, natural look right now. Here are some images that have inspired me and also some from my own home.
I love an interesting bowl or platter filled with beautiful things. You can use them on any table in your house. Below you can see a gorgeous marble bowl filled with ornaments. Fruit always works. Pomegranates, apples, gorgeous pears or clementines make a great bowl filler and they’re edible, too, of course. Pinecones are also a great choice. They bring a bit of the outside in. I like to decorate early but I don’t like to have to replace fresh greenery that I put out when it dries out after a couple of weeks. You can use fruit or ornaments on a temporary basis, too until it gets closer to Christmas and you’re ready to put those fresh arrangements on display.
I love a simple filled vase or pitcher, as well. You can use branches from your yard, pussy willow stems, faux or real berry stems or lighted branches in any combination to create a beautiful simple tall arrangement.
Christmas Mantel
Our fireplace is in the same room as where we set up our Christmas tree so I try to keep the mantel fairly simple. I seem to change it every year and I’m always looking for inspiration and ideas.
Christmas Wreath
It brings a smile to your face when you pull up to your house over the holidays and see your pretty wreath on the door. I like this simple wreath with white stars. The white stars show up so well against the greenery. But here are a few other wreaths that I think are gorgeous.
